EDITORS LAB IN VIENNA: Refugee crisis in focus
On November 23-25, ORF, FJUM and GEN, with the support of Google, will gather the best Austrian media innovators in Vienna to develop innovative news prototypes. The theme of the hackdays is: ‚How can newsrooms contribute to a constructive dialogue on the topic of refugees?‘. The winning team will be invited to take part in the Editors Lab Final during the GEN Summit 2016 in Vienna from 15-17 June.
The Editors Lab in Vienna is part of a series of international hackdays hosted by world-renowned media organisations in New York (The New York Times), London (The Guardian), Madrid (El País), Buenos Aires (Clarín), Paris (Le Parisien), and many more. It will bring together teams representing news media outlets from all platforms (broadcast, online, print). The ten teams will be composed of journalists, designers and developers. You can follow the event via the liveblog on the GEN website and the hashtag #EditorsLab on Twitter.
The participants will benefit from a tech talk given by Isabelle Sonnenfeld, Google News Lab Lead for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, a workshop given by Klaus Schwertner, General Secretary, of Caritas Austria, a design-thinking workshop given by Klaus Weinmaier, founder and CEO of The Engagement Lab, and a talk on smuggling networks by Livia Wagner, Private Sector Advisor at the Global Initiative.
