Ágnes Szunomár is a Hungarian economist specialised in monitoring China’s economic footprint in Central and Eastern Europe. She has published more than 100 scientific publications, led and participated in several international research projects.
Ágnes Szunomár is a senior research fellow and Head of Research Group on Development Economics at the Institute of World Economics, Centre for Economic and Regional Studies, Budapest. Since 2019, she has been an associate professor at the Department of World Economy, Institute of International, Political, and Regional Sciences, Corvinus University of Budapest (since 2019).
Szunomár is a member of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action "China In Europe Research Network” where she is the head of Working Group on “Strategic sectors and infrastructure developments". She is also a member of China Observers in Central and Eastern Europe (CHOICE) network and was a leading author of the economic chapter of the recent publication Empty shell no more, which looked at China’s use of 17+1 platform to increase its footprint in the region. She has recently edited a book for Palgrave Macmillan on emerging market multinationals' activities in the CEE countries.
Szunomár obtained her PhD at the Corvinus University of Budapest and her BA and MA at Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences, Faculty of Law, Budapest, Hungary.
