Carlos A. Pérez Ricart

Carlos A. Pérez Ricart is assistant professor in International Relations at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) in Mexico City. He is also a member of the Mexican Truth Commission in charge of investigating human rights violations occurred between 1965 and 1990 (COVeH).

Pérez Ricart holds a PhD in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin and has a degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México. Prior to joining CIDE, he was between 2017 and 2020 postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford where he worked at both the History Faculty and the Latin American Centre, St. Antony’s College.

His general research and teaching interests include the relationship between Mexico

and the United States, security and organized crime, arms trafficking, drug policies,

and the history of the Mexican police. His research has been published in journals such as Global Governance, The British Journal of Criminology, The Social History ofAlcohol and Drugs, Kriminologishes Journal, Injury Prevention, Crime & Justice, Foro Internacional, Historia Mexicana, Perfiles Latinoamericanos, and others.

His most recent publications are the edited books Gun trafficking and violence:

from the global network to the local security challenge (Palgrave, St. Antony’s College 2021), Crime, Violence and Justice in Latin America (Routledge, 2022) and the book Cien años de espías y drogas: La historia de los agentes antinarcóticos de Estados Unidos en México (Penguin Random House, 2022).
